A snapshot of visitor feedback from 1 April to 20 July 2026

Littlehampton Harbour Board (LHB) has welcomed the results of a snapshot visitor survey covering visits between 1 April and 20 July 2026. The survey invited 87 visitors to take part, with 27 visitors responding.

The responses provide a valuable insight into the experience of visiting vessels during this period, highlighting areas where the harbour is performing well alongside opportunities for further improvement.

Positive feedback on the LHB experience

The survey showed strong satisfaction with the facilities and overall visitor experience.

Essential berth facilities

26 of 27 respondents said they had adequate water supplies at their berth.

25 of 27 respondents reported adequate electricity, while 25 of 27 said they had adequate waste disposal facilities.

Cleanliness and maintenance

The maintenance and cleanliness of the pontoons and berth areas received particularly positive feedback:  19 respondents very satisfied and 8 respondents somewhat satisfied

Overall ratings

Berth satisfaction: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.3 / 5

Safety leaving vessels: ⭐⭐⭐⭐4.1 / 5

Visitor amenities: ⭐⭐⭐ 3.8 / 5

Overall visitor experience

The overall visit was rated positively:

10 — Excellent
15 — Good
2 — Fair
0 — Poor
0 — Very poor

Overall, 25 of the 27 respondents rated their visit as either Good or Excellent.

Most importantly, 23 of the 27 respondents said they would recommend Littlehampton Harbour Board to others as a good place to stay.

“You are a little gem and don’t receive the plaudits you deserve from the various pilot books!”

Staff and arrival experience

The feedback demonstrated that visitors generally found harbour staff helpful and approachable.  Of those who spoke to staff before entering the harbour, all 10 respondents said the assistance was helpful.

A further 20 respondents who visited the harbour office to pay or ask questions said staff were helpful, with no respondents reported any unhelpful interaction.

Visitors also generally found entering the harbour and reaching their berth straightforward. The LHB website including navigation charts, online information and signage, received positive feedback. Of those who used the information before entering the harbour, all 10 respondents said it was very useful.

Areas for improvement

The survey has identified areas where LHB can continue to improve the visitor experience, including:

Lighting

Lighting around the visitor pontoons was one area identified for improvement:

9 — Excellent
17 — Fair
1 — Poor

Safety and security

21 respondents reported no safety or security issues, while 6 respondents said they had experienced an issue during their stay.

These responses will be considered as part of the Board’s ongoing review of the visitor berths.

Visitor amenities

Visitor amenities received an average rating of 3.8 out of 5.

While many comments were positive, some respondents highlighted issues including the condition and availability of facilities. This feedback will help LHB identify practical improvements and ensure that investment is focused on the areas that matter most to visitors.

Views on advance booking

The survey also asked visitors about the possibility of introducing a returnable deposit when booking a berth in advance.

The responses were mixed:

16 would happily pay a returnable deposit

7 said a deposit scheme would put them off visiting

4 would prefer to turn up rather than book

The results will be useful when considering any future changes to the way visitor berths are booked.
