Littlehampton Harbour Board (“We” or “LHB”) are committed to safeguarding the privacy of your personal data.

The privacy and security of your personal information is extremely important to us.  This privacy policy sets out how we will treat your personal information, to make sure you stay informed and can be confident about providing us with information.

LHB is registered as a ‘Data Controller’ with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) the UK supervisory authority for data protection issues, our registration number is Z6988197.  The nominated Data Protection Officer for Littlehampton Harbour Board is the Chief Executive Officer.

What information do we collect?

We may collect, store and use the following kinds of personal data:

  • Information about your computer and about your visits to and use of this website (including your IP address, geographical location, browser type, referral source, length of visit and number of page views)
  • Information that you provide to us for the purpose of registering with us (including title, forename, surname, postal address, postcode, email address, telephone numbers including mobile phones)
  • The details of your vessel (including boat size, name, vessel type, colour, where it is kept)

  • Vehicle registration details if you make use of the berth holders car park at the LHB Harbour Office.
  • From you ‘opting in’ to receive news, or marketing information about LHB via our website, email, social media or one of our forms.
  • LHB uses CCTV for the detection and prevention of crime.
  • Images may be recorded on CCTV when you visit the Harbour Office, our car park or other locations within the Harbour Estate or marine limits.
  • Information collected by the LHB Patrol Officers such as name, address and in some cases video footage.
  • Information when you contact us by email, letter or otherwise with an enquiry or in response to communication from us.
  • We may also receive your personal data from outside agencies or third parties where there is a sound legal basis and purpose for us to receive it.
  • Any other information that you choose to send to us.

Cookies

  • Send you email notifications which you have specifically requested.
  • To respond to complaints made by you
  • To contact you about an incident or accident in the harbour that you were directly involved in or have witnessed.
  • The use of CCTV footage (by LHB) to support any complaints, incidents, accidents or investigations and if deemed, necessary, the footage can be used in support of a relevant prosecution.
  • To contact you by email, letter or otherwise and provide information in the form of a Notice to Mariners, safety or other general harbour communications.
  • We will not without your express consent provide your personal information to any third parties for the purpose of direct marketing.

Who we share your information with?

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties, and we will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.   We will only share your personal data as necessary for one of the lawful purposes for processing data as listed.

Your data will be shared with colleagues within the organisation where it is necessary for them to undertake their duties.

We sometimes share your data with trusted third parties who may process your data as part of the services they carry out on our behalf, for example Harbour Assist Software. We use Harbour Assist Software to enable us to perform our contract with you in relation to your use of our moorings/marina/port facilities. When we use third party service providers, we disclose only the personal information necessary to deliver the service and we have a contract in place that requires them to keep your information secure and not use it for their own direct marketing purposes.

We may share your information with other organisations such as:

  1. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency for the purposes of maritime safety.
  2. Organisations within the Harbour, such as local yacht club(s) or marina(s), for the purpose of assisting in the lawful recovery of outstanding fees and/or health and safety reasons. We hold Data Sharing Agreements with these organisations for this purpose.

Disclosures

We may disclose and/or share information about you to any of our employees, officers, agents, suppliers or subcontractors insofar as reasonably necessary for the purposes as set out in this privacy policy. In addition, we may disclose information about you:

  • To the extent that we are required to do so by law.
  • In connection with any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings.
  • In order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights (including providing information to others for the purposes of fraud prevention and reducing credit risk)
  • To the purchaser (or prospective purchaser) of any business or asset which we are (or are contemplating) selling.
  • The provision of a harbour management system to record and manage harbour activities.
  • Credit and debit card processing.
  • Offsite back up of information at secure data centres

  • Standing order, direct debit or BAC’s processing
  • Except as provided in this privacy policy, we will not provide your information to third parties.

Security of your personal data

We will take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information. We will store all the personal information you provide on our secure (password- and firewall- protected) servers. All electronic transactions you make to or receive from us will be encrypted using SSL technology.

Our website www.littlehampton.org.uk is SSL certified.  This provides a secure https://URL and padlock logo next to the address bar which lets you know you are on a trusted site.

Of course, data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over the internet.  You are responsible for keeping your password and user details confidential. We will not ask you for your password.

Policy amendments

We may update this privacy policy from time-to-time by posting a new version on our website. You should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any changes. We may also notify you of changes to our privacy policy by email.

Your rights
