Accessibility Statement
Commitment to accessibility
Littlehampton.org.uk is committed to making its website accessible to as many people as possible. We aim to improve accessibility and usability in line with recognised standards and best practice.
This website is not currently fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA, but steps have been taken to improve accessibility, and further improvements will be made where reasonably practicable.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA due to the non-compliances and limitations listed below.
Accessibility features currently available
An accessibility toolbar has been added to the website using the One Tap Accessibility plugin. This provides a persistent accessibility button on all pages, allowing users to open a sidebar with tools that can help customise the presentation of the website.
These tools may include:
-
Text size adjustment
-
Colour contrast and high-contrast display modes
-
Grayscale and colour inversion options
-
Readable font options
-
Highlighting of links and headings
-
Options to reduce or pause animations (where supported)
These features are designed to support a range of visual and cognitive accessibility needs by allowing users to adjust how content is displayed within their browser.
Known accessibility limitations
Despite the improvements above, the website has known accessibility limitations. These include, but are not limited to:
-
Some images and graphical elements may not have appropriate alternative (alt) text
-
Not all pages have been fully tested with screen readers
-
Keyboard navigation may not work consistently across all interactive elements
-
Some colour contrast combinations may not meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements
-
Older content and third-party embeds may not meet current accessibility standards
-
Downloadable documents (such as PDFs) may not be fully accessible
We are aware of these issues and acknowledge that the accessibility toolbar does not resolve all underlying accessibility barriers.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
Accessibility is treated as an ongoing process. Where reasonably practicable, we will:
-
Improve content structure and readability when pages are updated
-
Add alternative text to images where missing
-
Review keyboard navigation and focus order
-
Consider accessibility when adding new content or features
Full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance may not be achievable in all areas of the site, particularly where third-party content or historical material is involved, but we aim to make continual improvements.
