Special Directions
Further to the general directions explained above, the Harbour Master or his Officers and deputies may give a specific Special Direction to a person and / or vessel within the Harbour, or to a vessel entering or leaving the Harbour.
Special Directions may be given for various reasons, including:
- Requiring compliance with an existing legal requirement,
- Regulating the speed of a vessel.
- Regulating the movement, berthing, mooring, or unmooring of a vessel,
- Requiring the removal of a vessel from the Harbour.
A special direction may be given verbally or in writing, depending on the circumstances.
As with General Directions, a Special Direction is a legal order and a person who fails to comply with a Special Direction is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 4 on the standard scale (up to £2,500).
